abstract

this paper deals with an i * corresponding author email address:   nventory system with one central warehouse and a number of identical retailers. we consider perishable-on-the-shelf items; that is, all items have a fixed shelf life and start to age on their arrival at the retailers. each retailer faces poisson demand and employs (1, t) inventory policy. although demand not met at a retailer is lost, the unsatisfied demand at the central warehouse is backordered. in this study, the long-run system total cost rate is derived. moreover, a proposition is proved to define a domain for the optimal solution. also, a search algorithm is presented to obtain this solution. further, we extend the existent paper of the well-known (s‑1, s) policy to cope with our considered model. finally, in a numerical study, we compare (1, t) policy with (s‑1, s) policy in terms of system total cost. the results reveal that when transportation time from the central warehouse to the retailers is long, the (1, t) policy outperforms the (s‑1, s) policy.

Developing and solving two-echelon inventory system for perishable items in a supply chain: case study (Mashhad Behrouz Company)

In this research, a new two-echelon model has been presented to control the inventory of perishable goods. The performance of the model lies in a supply chain and is based on real conditions and data. The main purpose of the model is to minimize the maintenance cost of the entire chain. However, if the good is perished before reaching the customer (the expiration date is over)...

A Queueing-Inventory System with Repair Center for Defective Items and One-for-One Ordering Policy

In this paper we consider a system consisting of a supplier with a single processing unit, a repair center, and a retailer with Poisson demand. We assume that the retailer applies one-for-one ordering policy with backorders for his inventory control. The retailer’s orders form a queue in the supplier processing unit. We also assume that a certain fraction of the products produced by the supplie...

inventory control of perishable items in a two-echelon supply chain

in this paper, we develop an inventory model for perishable items with random lifetime in a two-echelon production-distribution system. there is a manufacturer at the first stage that produces its product with a constant rate. deterioration in this stage is modeled via a two-parameter weibull distribution. at the second stage, the retailer places the order and receives the product instantly. th...
